Before You Move
Before you leave your current home, you may want to take some time to go through your belongings and lighten the load a bit. Now is a great time for donations and yard sales!
Ready to start packing? Keep it organized... labeling and color-coding are big must-dos. Overloading boxes are big do-nots. Packing by room? Green light. Dumping things from various rooms all into one box? Red light!
Staying organized while you pack makes unpacking and moving in that much easier!
As Moving Day Approaches
It's time to get really, really prepared for the big day. This is when you'll do things like change your address (you can future date the change), set up your utilities, and maybe even pack up an overnight bag of essentials.
You may also want to organize your important personal information to be sure you've got it on hand—this can include medical information and prescriptions, insurance, important phone numbers, and information for your moving company.
During the Move
The big day has arrived! Deep breath... you've got this. You spent so much time organizing, all you've got to do now is pick up your keys and walk out the door. Make sure you've got any important personal information with you, as well as contact information for your moving company.
If you're using a moving company, you may want to take an overnight bag with you, in case you reach your new home before the moving truck does. A change of clothes, toiletries, and phone charger would all be handy to have even if you don't have the rest of your belongings!
After the Move
You packed. You moved. You're here. Now... the unpacking.
But wait! Before you start emptying boxes, take some time to clean. It's much easier to vacuum, mop, and scrub without furniture and boxes in the way! Once that's done, unpack by room, starting with the essentials, like kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom.
